It's On Again So.... Bring A Friend! The 12th annual South Burnett Wine & Food In The Park Festival will be held at Memorial Park in Kingaroy - right in the heart of Queensland's newest wine region - from 10:00am to 9:00pm on Saturday 13th March 2010. This year the Festival is more exciting than ever with a h-u-g-e line-up of live entertainment all through the day and late into the night. Latest Festival News Thank You For Being Part Of Our Awesome 2010 Festival! 14th March 2010: If you were one of the 6,000 people who braved the weather and came to Wine & Food In The Park yesterday, we'd like to say a big "Thank You!" for helping make this year's event one of the best to date. As we promised, Wine & Food In The Park was rain free. In fact, the dark rainclouds that drifted overhead for most of the day created near-perfect temperatures. And although it was a little windy in some parts of south-east Queensland yesterday, the big tents in Memorial Park helped keep the wind right down too. In fact, in most places it was little more than a gentle breeze. We were really pleased with the enthusiastic reception our new Food Producers Stand received from so many people. And all the wineries told us they had a really great day out too, as did the PCA Regional Cuisine Cook-Offs. Thanks to our hard working Festival entertainment director and emcee Michael Monk from Our Country FM, our stage acts and street performers were really top notch too. But we'd like to reserve the biggest thanks for you, the wonderful people who came to Wine & Food In The Park 2010 to meet up with old friends, relax on the lawns and just enjoy the simple pleasures of a great day out regardless of the weather. Forecast For Saturday: Perfect Weather And A Really GREAT Day Out! 11th March 2010: After really heavy rainfalls across the State last weekend, a lot of people from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and other areas have been contacting the Wine & Food In The Park festival office this week to ask if Wine & Food In The Park is still on? The answer is: Yes!!! And the really good news is that the rains have not only helped green up Memorial Park beautifully but that the forecast for this coming Saturday 13th March is for a fine, partly cloudy day with temperates of between 16 and 23 degrees - which is just perfect for a terrifically great day (and night) out! So if you live outside the South Burnett and find it raining when you wake up on Saturday, jump in your car and come to Wine & Food In The Park regardless. It rarely rains in the South Burnett and we've already had almost triple our normal March rainfall - so we're not expecting more any time soon. Grab Some Official WAITP Gear In The Giant Wine Tent This Saturday 8th March 2010: Festival-goers at Wine & Food In The Park will have another completely new thing to look out for this year: the first-ever release of our official WAFITP merchandise. So many people have asked us over the years for some sort of permanent keepsake of the Festival that this year we've arranged a small range of high-quality products which will be available from a special Festival stand inside the Giant Wine Tent. Our official merchandise range includes WAFITP T-shirts, bucket hats, single wine coolers and flashing wine glasses. We'll also have sunscreen sachets and bottled water available at the merchandise stand too. All our official Wine & Food In The park products are top quality items and we're making them available at the lowest prices we possibly can. But there's only a limited number of each one. And because they'll only be available on Festival day and because we intend to change our range from one year to the next, they could well become valuable collectors items in the future. So get in quick this Saturday if you want a rare, permanent and genuinely useful piece of Wine & Food In The Park 2010 that you can call your very own! Queensland's Superstar Chef Is Coming To Cook Up A Storm! 5th March 2010: Queensland's most highly awarded chef will be coming to Wine & Food In The Park's incredibly popular PCA Regional Cuisine Cook-Off this year to take dedicated foodies on a tour-de-force of kitchen wizardry. David Pugh from Brisbane's acclaimed Restaurant II will be leading a hand-picked team of chefs through a full day of dazzling cooking demonstrations in the PCA Cook-Off Tent at the Festival. David was chosen as the Courier-Mail's Chef Of The Year in 2008, and then gonged as Queensland Chef 2009-2010 by an independent panel made up of seven of the most respected and knowledgeable members of Queensland's food industry. He's previously been a judge at the PCA Cook-Offs but this year - for the very first time - he'll be getting up on stage to demonstrate the culinary magic that's won him a national fan base. The Cook-Offs will be running from 11:00am to 4:00pm on Festival day and - as always - admission to see them is absolutely free. But get in early if you want to be certain of getting a seat! Sample Real South Burnett Foods At WAFITP This Year! 2nd March 2010: We always try to do new things at Wine & Food In The Park each year - and this year we've axed our on-site VIP Restaurant in favour of something completely new: a South Burnett Food Producers stand where you'll be able to see South Burnett foods up close; watch them get turned into gourmet dishes by the South Burnett's three best caterers; and then buy them to eat! The new stand is the brainchild of Sheree Strauss, Bronwyn Bisley and Mike Giles (pictured at right) and it will be located in the Giant Wine Tent in the space occupied by the on-site restaurant last year. It will have displays and demonstrations from many leading South Burnett food brands such as Barkers Creek Pork; The Peanut Van; Proteco Cold Pressed Oils; Kingaroy Cheese; Butterfly Country Kitchen; Kingaroy Gourmet Peanuts; Windera Hydroponics; Red Fox Pitaya Dragon Fruit; Mammino Ice Creams; Kinbombi Beef; Bunya Gold Olive Oils; Ivyhome Quality Foods; Kingaroy Kitchen; and Gordon Park Premium Meats. And apart from seeing demonstrations of these how these products are produced and the many uses they have, you'll also be able to buy hot and cold mixed platters of these products cooked up fresh on the day for a really great (and inexpensive!) gourmet lunch or dinner. The platters will include everything from Peanut Van hummos on crispy shards of Turkish bread through to rare roast Wagyu beef with onion and chilli jam and fresh coriander; medallions of Barkers Creek Pork with a tangy paw-paw and ginger chutney; Kinbombi beef and parmesan meatballs; petite gourmet quiches with semi-dried tomatoes, kalamata olives and fresh basil; and many, many more. So if hunger calls - and it always does, sooner or later - make this stand a "must see" on your itinerary this year. See Australia's Youngest Circus Performers At WAFITP 27th February 2010: Australia's youngest circus performers - 16 year-old Rhett Morrow and his 12-year-old sister Tilly (pictured at right) - will be part of the children's entertainment programme at Wine & Food In The Park this year. But adults can enjoy them too! These incredibly talented youngsters will be bringing their Rhett & Tilly Show to this year's Festival direct from their latest tour to Taiwan. And they're a last-minute addition to our 2010 entertainment line-up because we weren't sure - until just recently - that their touring schedule and the Festival would mesh. Rhett & Tilly have performed at many stand-out shows including the Woodford Folk Festival and the Brisbane EKKA. But their appearance at this year's Festival will be a first for them and for us too. They'll be joining other children's entertainment on offer during the day inclding Stripey The Clown and our usual big range of amusement rides from Bundaberg Amusements. Our children's entertainment programme is expressly designed to let families keep their little ones amused while they enjoy a brief, well-earned break. And it's something that's always made Wine & Food In The Park a day the whole family can enjoy! Goodness Gracious! Maude and Myrtle Are Coming To Wine & Food In The Park Too! 24th February 2010: If you think you see two Kingaroy matrons wandering through the crowds at Wine & Food In The Park this year, be prepared for a big surprise! Although Maude and Myrtle (pictured at right) look like pillars of Kingaroy's Establishment, they're anything but. And their hilarious antics will probably have you rolling in the aisles (well, they would if there were any aisles at the Festival). Maude and Myrtle are part of the Sault Poets acrobatic troupe and they've delighted crowds right across Australia at anything from Perth's Artrage Festival right through to Brisbane's Riverfire Festival with their whacky and amusing tongue-in-cheek antics. They'll be appearing at this year's Wine & Food In The Park for the very first time to show what happens when a classic twinset-and-pearls ensemble comes face to face with the South Burnett Wine & Food In The Park experience. So make sure you give them a big WAFITP welcome! This Year: Stay In Touch With The South Burnett's Wineries Before & After WAFITP 21st February 2010: Wine & Food In The Park is all about South Burnett wines and foods. And if you want to find out more about our region's wineries before, during and after the Festival - this year you can! In July 2009 the South Burnett Wine Industry Association launched their own South Burnett Wine website. Every week it publishes a new story about some aspect of the local wine industry that would interest just about anyone who really likes wine (for example, how this year's vintage has turned out; tastings, dinners or functions at particular wineries; new awards and award-winning releases; and so on). Over the coming year South Burnett Wine is going to expand to contain even more information about our region's wines, wineries and cellar doors. Take In An Art Show At The 2010 Festival! 18th February 2010: This year's Wine & Food In The Park Festival will have another new thing for Festival-goers that we've never had before: an Art Exhibition featuring works by South Burnett artists. The exhibition is being run by the Artist's Cottage and it will be mounted under canvas in an area near the Giant Wine Tent. The WAFITP exhibition will feature a wide range of contemporary works by local artists. And if you see something you really love, you can even buy it (you can pick up your artwork either at the Festival itself, or from the Artist's Cottage the next day). The exhibition is designed to showcase some of the region's best artists and allow people who may rarely (or never) get to an art gallery to see some of the works that are making local gallery opening nights "must do" social events for quite a lot of people these days. The exhibition will run from 11:00am on Festival day through until nightfall. New For 2010: Wine & Food In The Park Official Merchandise 15th February 2010: This year's Wine & Food In The Park Festival will have something new inside the Giant Wine Tent: our own fresh water stand and official Wine & Food In The Park merchandise. For years lots of festival-goers have asked us if we have any souvenirs of the day they could take away with them (well, apart from stacks of great wine and happy memories of a top day out with their friends and family). And others have suggested that it would be more convenient for a lot of people if fresh water was available inside the Giant Wine Tent as well as in the Festival's Food Court So this year we're obliging both groups with a fresh water stand inside the Giant Wine Tent that will also be stocked with a great range of WAFITP hats, t-shirts, wine coolers and sunscreens (all inscribed with the official Wine & Food In The Park logo and all priced at $20 or less). But one special item we're offering at our new stand this year that we think will be really popular are our flashing wineglasses. These plastic wine glasses look just like ordinary wine glasses - yes, you can certainly drink great South Burnett wines out of them! - but when you click a button on the base they begin to flash through all the colours of the rainbow (and you can see what this looks like if you click here or on the picture above). We only have a limited number of these and we think they'll go pretty fast.
